Terms and Conditions

1.  Company Information

TutorMate is a reputable online and in-person tutoring platform operated by TutorMate Ltd., registered at 167–169 Great Portland Street, London, W1W 5PF, UK. By using TutorMate, you join a trusted educational network that connects students with qualified tutors for high-quality, personalised learning experiences.

2.  Service Availability 

  • TutorMate operates during standard UK business hours (Monday to Friday).
  • Flexible lesson times are available, including mornings, evenings, and
  • The platform is regularly updated to enhance user experience and ensure a safe, supportive learning environment.

4.  How TutorMate Works

TutorMate serves as an intermediary that connects students with independent tutors for one-to-one online or face-to-face sessions.

  • Tutors create detailed profiles highlighting their expertise, qualifications, and

  • All bookings and payments are made through the platform for safety and

Please note: TutorMate does not employ tutors. Students are responsible for verifying tutor credentials prior to booking.

5.  Tutor Responsibilities Legal Status and Eligibility:

Tutors must be 18+ and legally permitted to work in the UK on a self-employed basis.

Information and Conduct:

  • Ensure all profile details are accurate and up-to-
  • Disclose any criminal convictions or cautions, including those received post-
  • Maintain a valid Background Check (DBS), with proof available upon

Bookings and Communication:

  • All lessons must be booked through
  • Respond to messages
  • Avoid bypassing TutorMate for six months following any TutorMate-arranged

Lesson Management:

Tutors must:

  • Only create bookings when instructed by the
  • Contact students and wait up to 15 minutes for them to
  • Refund students if unable to access the online classroom (unless due to TutorMate fault).
  • Avoid completing coursework/assignments for

Other Duties:

  • Respect recording policies (lessons may be recorded and shared).
  • Maintain personal insurance and a safe working
  • Adhere strictly to TutorMate’s Code of Conduct and Safeguarding

Tutors who fail to comply may be removed from the platform. All liability resulting from platform use is the tutor’s responsibility.

6.  Student Responsibilities

  • Must be 18+ or have a parent/guardian’s
  • Keep account details up to
  • May cancel bookings free of charge if done at least 72 hours in
  • Enter into a direct agreement with tutors once a booking is
  • Ensure they have the required technology to attend online
  • Accept that missed sessions are non-refundable unless TutorMate’s terms are

  • All payments must be made via

All students must uphold respectful, professional conduct and follow the Code of Conduct (see Section 12).

7.  Payments & Secure Transactions

  • Payments are processed through Stripe and include both tutor and service
  • Fees are charged 24 hours after a lesson or immediately if cancelled within that
  • Full payment is required if a tutor is present for at least 15
  • Refunds are issued in accordance with TutorMate’s

All payments must be made on-platform. Off-platform payments are not supported or protected.

8.  Scheduling, Cancellations & Refunds

  • Lessons are delivered via a secure video platform or agreed physical
  • Bookings must be made at least 24 hours in
  • Sessions may be scheduled flexibly (including weekends).
  • Duration typically ranges from 1 to 2
  • For multiple sessions, attendance of at least one per week is required unless agreed
  • Cancellations made within 24 hours are non-

9.  Intellectual Property

  • All platform content (logos, course material, features) is protected by UK intellectual property law.
  • Users must not replicate, alter or share content without explicit
  • Uploaded user content may be used by TutorMate for marketing or promotional purposes without prior notice or compensation.

10.  User Accounts

Users are responsible for safeguarding their login credentials and must report any unauthorised access to TutorMate immediately.

11. Termination

TutorMate reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these refunds are not guaranteed in such cases.

12.  Code of Conduct & Safeguarding Policy Tutor-Specific Safeguarding Rules:

  • Declare all criminal
  • Maintain DBS certification (upload on request).
  • Book lessons solely through the
  • Parental consent required for under-18
  • Maintain safe and insured teaching

Expected Behaviour for All Users:

  • Maintain professionalism
  • Provide constructive
  • Avoid unethical practices (e.g., cheating, plagiarism).

13.  Missed Lessons & Complaints

  • Students must report issues within 96 hours of a missed or unsatisfactory
  • Tutors have 48 hours to respond
  • Refunds may be issued if no dispute is
  • If unresolved, the student may pursue the matter directly with the
  • TutorMate may offer discretionary goodwill

14.  Child Protection

  • Children under 18 must not be left alone with tutors during
  • All tutors must follow UK safeguarding legislation and The Tutors’ Association Child Protection Policy.
  • Concerns should be reported to TutorMate

15.  Prohibited Conduct

The following are strictly forbidden:

  • Discrimination, hate speech, or exclusionary
  • Harassment, bullying, or
  • Inappropriate or explicit
  • Academic
  • Off-platform communications or violations may result in permanent removal or legal action.

16.  Background Checks & Compliance

  • Tutors working with children or vulnerable adults must provide an Enhanced DBS check registered with the Update Service.
  • Certificates must be no more than three years
  • If a tutor does not hold a DBS certificate, they may not work with students who require this
